Virginia Education Association Rally 5:15 at Courtland Elementary School

Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors Public Budget Meeting
6:30 at Courtland High School
Sandra Barnstead, BAN member will speak

BAN received the summary of recent events from the Spotsylvania Education Association below:
"It has been an absolutely insane budget experience in Spotsylvania.
Things began at our tax rate advertisement.  One of members was verbally assaulted by a member of the local TEA Party.  (Here’s the video if you want … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99aXc3XnUC4&feature=youtu.be&noredirect=1 )
It was very ugly after that.  Some of our SB members attended the local GOP meeting to ask for an apology to the school system.  Our Vice Chair, and now former member of the GOP was insulted and the letter that was read was snatched from her and torn up.  Because there were more than 3 BOS members present, a now former GOP member videotaped the meeting as it was a public meeting.  He was assaulted by one of our BOS members and that member now has assault charges pending.
Fast forward to our SB meeting.  The incoming GOP chair addressed the SB and “declared WAR” on the schools and told us that we are at “Armageddon”.  Again, if you want to watch that video, here it is…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YhbAqUII0Q&feature=youtu.be)
Since that meeting, the TEA party has been actively distributing propaganda and phone banking their propaganda.  Their information can be found at www.schrooled.org .
SEA is organizing for our rally on April 5th prior to the public hearing.  We need all the help we can get.  Please share with your members.  We would love as much support as we can muster.
Tuesday, April 5th is the Public Budget Hearing.
As things stand currently, if the .86 tax rate is NOT approved, we are looking at losing 33 teaching positions, a 5% increase in health care costs, loss of resources for students, larger class sizes, less opportunity for enrichment.
If you don't like the sound of that, then you need to come to the April 5th hearing.
SEA will gather at Courtland ES starting at 5:15. The Public Hearing starts at 6:30.
Please RSVP through this link.
